exercise instructions

This list is representative of the most common exercises performed on the Shoulder SSS device during the early weeks of post-operative recovery. Depending on your physician’s protocol, some exercises may not be appropriate for your treatment plan or additional exercises may be added.

A. PASSIVE INTERNAL ROTATION | EXTERNAL ROTATION

  • Adjustable ROM settings dictated by the physician’s protocol
  • The unaffected arm does all the work
  • Do NOT rotate your body
  • Do NOT let your affected wrist bend in and out

B. PROTRACTION | RETRACTION

  • Adjustable ROM settings dictated by the physician’s protocol
  • Drive the motion through the elbow
  • Focus on the movement of the scapular blades, pinching them together during retraction
  • Do NOT push or pull with your hand or fingerse

C. ISOMETRICS – INTERNAL | EXTERNAL ROTATION

  • No movement muscle contraction
  • AVOID exessive force and sharp pain
  • Do NOT grip the handle or push/pull with your hand or fingers
  • Do NOT rotate forearm or hand; Keep wrist straight

D. ISOMETRICS – PROTRACTION | RETRACTION

  • No movement muscle contraction
  • AVOID exessive force and sharp pain
  • Do NOT grip the handle or push/pull with your hand or fingers
  • Initiate the force through the elbow

E. PASSIVE FORWARD ELEVATION

  • Adjustable ROM settings dictated by the physician’s protocol
  • The unaffected arm does all the work
  • Do NOT pull back against the resistance band
  • Keep your elbow on the armrest

F. PASSIVE ABDUCTION

  • Adjustable ROM settings dictated by the physician’s protocol
  • The unaffected arm does all the work
  • Do NOT lean into the motion
  • Do NOT pull against the resistance band
